Playa Santa Teresa

The long, open beach that put this town on the map — consistent waves all day, and the sunset everyone walks out for.

This is the beach the town is named for — a long, wide ribbon of pale sand facing straight into the Pacific, with surf that breaks from sunrise to sunset and a horizon that turns gold every evening.

Playa Santa Teresa is the main event. It's where the surfers paddle out at first light, where families spread out in the afternoon, and where, as the sun starts to drop, the entire town drifts down to the sand to watch it sink into the ocean. More than any single bar or restaurant, this nightly sunset is the town's true gathering ritual.

The surf

Santa Teresa is known worldwide for its waves — a series of consistent beach breaks over sandy bottom that work for a huge range of surfers. Beginners find friendly sections; intermediates and experts find powerful, hollow waves on the right swell. Because it faces west and picks up Pacific groundswell year-round, there's almost always something to ride. Early morning (offshore winds, glassy water) and the hour before sunset are the prime sessions.

The sunset

It's hard to overstate how central the sunset is here. People plan their evenings around it: a drink in hand, toes in the sand, the sky running through orange and pink while surfers trade the last waves of the day as silhouettes. Stick around after dark on the right night and you'll catch fire dancers and a drum circle further down the beach.

This is Armonia's beach

Armonia sits just back from this stretch — about a 90-second walk to the sand. It's the reason the hotel exists where it does: roll out of bed for the dawn session, walk over for the sunset, and never lose the rhythm of the water.

Good to know: the sand flows seamlessly south into Playa Carmen and north toward Playa Hermosa — a long, walkable coastline. Low tide opens up the widest, firmest sand for walking and beginner surfing.

Wake up on the wave.

Armonia is a 90-second walk from this sand — timber rooms, a pool, daily yoga and the gym, and the food truck for breakfast before the dawn session. The whole village, right on the beach you came for.
